Co-simulation of Shape Optimization and Fundamental Bounds

The fundamental bounds on performance of radiating devices are known as well as the (heuristic) algorithms synthetizing the shapes. Not much is, however, known about tightness of these bounds, i.e., how far are the optimal designs from the bounds. Get familiar with a technique to establish the bounds (convex optimization) and with a technique for shape optimization (heuristic optimization). Connect these two to monitor the gap between actual and the best performance. Propose possible improvements of the current design procedure based on the knowledge of the “potential improvement” defined as the gap between the bound and the actual performance.
